The Last Cigarette

A smooth stench
Of soothing smoke
Sucked in
Through pursed lips

With burning relief
Eyes shut softly
Thoughts abandoned
In zero gravity

Head hung lowly
Welcoming a numbness
Letting it crawl
From lungs to spine

Despair reminisced
In a perpetual moment of oblivion
Tears that welled up
Lost ground to uncertainty

Filled
To the brink of exhaustion
Nostrils flared
With expiring smoke

Opening eyes
To new revelations
I withered away
With that last cigarette.
